CLUB GRANDMARAMA: A Superpowered Movement for the World’s Grandmas
Most superhero origin stories start with a radioactive spider.
Mine starts with a missing grandmother — and a bug-obsessed villain who never got a hug.
Meet Oskar Larue: scientist, curator of the world’s largest bug museum, and the only orphan in history to turn his lack of a grandmother into a full-scale criminal operation. Convinced the only way to fill the “grandma-shaped hole” in his heart is to steal all the love for himself, Oskar hatches a diabolical plan: kidnap every grandmother in the world.
When Grandmarama — a globe-trotting, sharp-tongued, secretly-sweet grandma — is snatched by Oskar, things don’t go as planned. A bite from one of his genetically altered bugs grants her superpowers, and she’s suddenly faster, stronger, and sassier than ever. Now she’s on a mission to escape, rescue every kidnapped grandma, and take down Oskar Larue if it’s the last thing she does.
This isn’t just a comic romp. GRANDMARAMA is also an analogy for the real-life disappearance of grandmothers from our daily lives due to aging, dementia, or Alzheimer’s. It’s a thrilling, funny, heart-filled story that resonates across generations.
The Vision
CLUB GRANDMARAMA isn’t just a single book or film — it’s a multi-platform movement designed to entertain, inspire, and give back.
-
Children’s Picture Book – fully illustrated and nearly ready to launch.
-
Podcast & Film – Grandmarama’s adventures plus real-life grandma stories.
-
Mobile Game – think Angry Birds, but with superpowered grannies on rescue missions.
-
Global Grandma Empowerment Program – fighting ageism, honoring grandmothers, and giving back to Alzheimer’s research.
I’ve already invested years and my own funds to get the first stage ready for the world. The Artlist 100K Fund -which I am pursuing - would supercharge production, marketing, and audience building — taking us from a launch-ready book to a fully realized global brand.
Why Me
I’m Jennifer Barrette, founding partner and VP of Development at Transmedia Entertainment, where I create bold, heartfelt projects for children and comedy that can live across film, gaming, and publishing. My husband and I own the company outright, with no outside investors — every project so far has been built entirely with my own resources.
I’m not just a producer — I’m an artist, a storyteller, and a hands-on creator. I’m working to master video editing, filming, and animation, giving me the ability to take a project from concept art to a polished, screen-ready product. That means I don’t just hand off my ideas — I bring them to life myself, from concept through development.
GRANDMARAMA was born from a conversation that’s stayed with me for years. A friend told me her grandmother had passed away, then added softly, “It’s okay… we actually lost her a decade ago to Alzheimer’s.” That broke my heart. It made me determined to create a superhero who represents the fierce, loving, unstoppable women who should never fade from view.
Why Now
CLUB GRANDMARAMA is ready for takeoff. The book is complete, the brand is developed, and the movement is already forming.
In the coming six months we plan to fully launch this project one piece at a time.
-
Launch the picture book with a global media push.
-
Build a loyal following through podcasts, short-form videos, and partnerships.
-
Begin production on the mobile game and film.
-
Roll out the Grandma Empowerment Program and support Alzheimer’s research.
Because in my world, grandmas aren’t background characters — they’re superheroes. And with your support, the world will see them that way too.
